Simon Walsh (born Simon Gerard Peter Godfrey) is a musician with a
deep abiding hatred of his previous name. His life in music began
with a string of progressive rock bands during the eighties in which
he learned that playing fast and tricky music is fun to perform
but pointless to listen to. Girls didn’t dig it either.
Today, Simon divides his time between making pop songs with his
guitars and unsettling noises with his magic boxes.
Simon is usually all over the place. He has played throughout
Europe (The UK, France, Germany, and Estonia) and in the USA and
claims that playing live is both the most fun and frustrating part
of being a musician.
In addition to Simon’s live duties, he runs a record label (Lazy
Gun Records) with co-writer Robert Ramsay, DJ’s regularly with the
VAULT45 Sound System, works as a session drummer for bands in and
around Europe, has supported cult luminaries such as Peter Green,
Jools Holland & Robyn Hitchcock and has appeared on such TV
shows as, Eastenders and The Bill (for money).
His heroes include a wide variety of artists both dead and invisible;
Bill Hicks, A Silver Mt. Zion, Spike Milligan, Neutral Milk Hotel,
Iain Banks, The Magnetic Fields, Jeff Buckley, Talk Talk, and The
Stars of the Lid are all admired.
Simon recognises the fact that he is terminally fascinated in
fads, doing the wrong thing and lying.
No guilt was used in the making of this biography.
