Godspeed You Black Emperor - lift yr. skinny fists like antennas to heaven

The best way to remember that you are only on this earth for a finite period of time.

This album is without doubt like no music upon this good earth. Oh ho, you say 'It's just guitars, drums and stuff, how different can that be?' Well buddy, you're wrong, TOTALLY AND UTTERLY WRONG. This noise starts its journey at the ambient end of Floyd, wanders out of the house, past the esoteric extremities of Tortoise, through the blinding white noise of Einstuerzende Neubaten and then out the other side into a blissful field, full of the bones of a thousand post rock wannabies. These guys play the sounds of your dreams. They don't care if those dreams reflect the best moments in your life or the deepest darkest places that your soul has to offer. By some miracle, it's all the same to them.

I was lucky enough to see them play at a tiny venue in Bordeaux (France that is) and to put it simply, it was an epiphytic moment in my musical life. Nothing since that gig has sounded quite the same and I was deeply affected by their almost feral performance. Later that same year I saw them again at The Ocean in London, this time with my co-writer Rob. We both agreed that this noise was impossible to make by any other band and that's the highest compliment I think anyone could ever bestow upon group.

They are not always an easy listen but then again, that's what Brittney Spears and Limp Bizkit are for. However you have to start somewhere and if your road ends up at the doorstep of this truly remarkable band, you can be my friend for ever.

'I don't get it' you say

'Of course you don't' I reply gratefully.
